If you ride business or first you can probably wear what you want as the luxury of laying flat in your own space will carry you across time lines with no issue (maybe hang up your coat as you dont want to exit the plane with a rumbled one that would suggest hard ship). As for the rest of us, living in a country so far from everyone else, our planes are usually the long ones. And the back of the plane is wear we settle for a day or two.
When sitting amongst the mass, the temperature is akin to a hot flush, its hot then cold and repeat, it can be hard to adjust to this and so I've compiled a quick (Kiosk based, obviously) wardrobe staples for travellers that ive used myself and find very comfortable.
I have a very romantic vision of travelling that involves, dressing up, sipping a cold chardonnay, enjoying a movie and exiting the plane ready to immediately start my holiday but im also a realist and have travelled a lot and slowly put the previous ideas to bed in my head.
The most important part of a travelling wardrobe is cotton. Breathable, light and comfortable.
Start with Pico knickers, crop top and vest top. The layering here is important as you really dont want a heavy jumper on board. Unless you are willing to take a second set of clothes to change into ½ way you also will enjoy the freshness and softness of these sets.
Wear a Le bon shoppe Tee in organic cotton (see, again) and a pair of Le bon shoppe balloon pants, you guessed it.. in organic cotton. This middle layer is important as it needs to be comfortable in 2 climates, when you enter the plane on 3 degrees but you exit in 27, you dont have time or patience to do a change so you need to have a middle layer that is thin but warm but light but comfortable. The pockets obviously help and the combination is crease free and still looking good after the journey.
The only thing 1 take as a spare on board is socks, 1 per plane. There is an instant freshness that you can only get from a clean pair of socks and unless you sleep with your shoes on, the plane floors are disgusting so popping your shoe back on after a flight is a bit gross. The socks given by the plane are very very synthetic that you get instant hot foot engaging with the sock. What am I going to say... go cotton. I wear Le bon shoppe as my first sock, nice and light. Thunders love as my long flight, warm but breathable and again a quick Le bon shoppe to get me across town to the hotel.
I finish with a (not Kiosk) Uniqlo lambs wool jumper that is light but very warm and not to bulky to drag around in my travels and voila, your dressed for success or at least a very comfortable 24 hours.
Lastly, accessories I can stand behind the Baggu puffy fanny bags with full confidence, planes, metros, tubes and boat rides, this bag held all the important stuff close but looked great with a pair of shorts or a dress.
If you are going away, safe travels, post lots of pictures so I can escape the winter.... at least while I scroll.
